The Sustainability Team at DMU invites you to take part in the first hedgehog litter picks of the year. Together with students, members of staff and the Sustainability team, we aim to make our campus cleaner and safer for hedgehogs and other wildlife.
Litter can be a serious issue for hedgehogs. They can become entangled or trapped, which can cause injuries and even death. Elastic bands in particular can be deadly, as they can wrap around limbs and cut off circulation. This is a big issue for city hedgehogs in particular due to the amount of litter that ends up on our streets each day.
Taking part in an HFC litter-picking event will not only help to make our campus more pleasant for people, but it will also make it safer for animals. Supporting us in this event will also progress DMU’s efforts in securing the Hedgehog Friendly Campus award.
We would love for you to join us at any or all of the following sessions:
- Wednesday 24 January, 2–3pm
- Wednesday 7 February, 2–3pm
- Wednesday 21 February, 2–3pm
Please let us know on which day(s) you want to come by emailing sustainability@dmu.ac.uk.
The starting point will be in front of the DSU Campus Centre building.
We hope to see you there!
