The Confucius Institute at ̨ÍåÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ (DMU CI) is a vibrant celebration of Chinese language and culture, providing an insight for students, staff and the wider community. It was co-founded by the University of Science and Technology in Beijing (USTB), the Chinese partner university of DMU CI.
DMU CI runs a wide variety of courses, public events and activities designed to share Chinese language and culture for better relations between China and the UK. These include a focus on the development of the city to stimulate local economic growth and to enhance mutual educational and cultural communication. Activities are open to DMU staff, students and the local community and include:
- Formal and informal Mandarin Chinese lessons for a wide range of abilities and needs
- Cultural activities such as Tai-Chi, Martial Arts, Chinese tea ceremonies, papercutting, calligraphy, painting, Chinese cuisine, traditional music and dance, literature and film.
- Interactive teaching of the Chinese language and culture in Leicestershire schools
- A relaxing space where everyone is welcome to drop in between 9am-5pm on weekdays
The Institute works with and DMU Local, to offer an on-campus international experience for DMU staff and students as well as a two-week Summer School each year at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB).
