Students have rated ̨ÍåÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Leicester (DMU) as the best university in the UK for work experience in this year’s RateMyPlacement Awards.
The DMU Careers Team scored an average of 4.5 out of 5 after students were to score the support and resources available to them while looking for work experience at their university.
Support with placements, CV one-to-ones and the platform resonated particularly well among DMU students, allowing DMU to secure the top spot in the 2024/25 Best University for Work Experience table.
Richard Bowden, Head of Careers and Graduate Successes at DMU, said: “Undertaking meaningful work experience whilst at university has such a hugely positive impact on students. Not only does it make a student more likely to get a graduate-level job when they leave university but it also leads to improved academic performance.
“Beyond that, it allows the individual to grow and develop as a person and get a real feel for where they want their career to take them. These are the reasons why we work so hard to support students in immersive experiences like placements, our own internship schemes such as the Frontrunners, and Accelerated Career Enhancement (ACE) Internship programmes.
“Being voted for by students makes this award really special and we’re immensely proud to be the number one university for work experience.”
RateMyPlacement was first launched in 2007 as a platform to enable students to rate and review their work experience and help them make more informed choices on where to find a placement.
Having now amassed more than 70,000 reviews and one million placement ratings, the team reaches out to students asking for their experience finding work experience.
The DMU Careers Team offers a range of initiatives to help students secure work experience. Its popular Frontrunners scheme enables students to undertake 10 hours of paid work a week within the university. There are hundreds of roles available each year.
Students looking for paid opportunities outside of DMU can apply to the ACE Internship initiative, which offers six-week temporary roles to students across a range of disciplines at Midlands-based businesses.
Each of the four university faculties also has its dedicated placement team designed to help students secure relevant work experience. Students can find out more information about the faculty placement teams here.
The Career Hub, located on the ground floor of the Hugh Aston, is also available for students to drop in between 10am and 3pm for quick, free career advice.
