Level 6 Continuous Professional Development for Nursing Associates Registered (NAR's)

Take your career as a Nursing Associate Registrant further by selecting to study from a suite of level 6 CPD modules that can be studied as independent modules, or combined to achieve a full BSc or BSc (Hons) award in Professional Clinical Practice.

Overview

As of February 2024, Nursing Associates Registrants(NARs) will be able to study part-time flexible, study options to build upon their clinical skills experience, and can achieve either an academically accredited CPD module or a BSc ‘top-up’ degree (60 credits), or a BSc (Hons) ‘top-up’ degree (120 credits) in Professional Clinical Practice.

Modules that are open for NARs are particularly suitable for those who do not currently hold a degree level qualification and form part of the BSc /BSc (Hons) Professional Clinical Practice programme. Students can study the modules available for NARs either as a short, standalone module or modules can be combined to form part of an academic award. Modules vary in length and available as either 30 credit or 15 credit options.

Please note this is not an international programme and studying these modules /programme does not provide an additional NMC registration, but it can help NARs to develop their clinical knowledge and skills, and enhance the way that they practice and future career prospects.

Entry criteria

  • NAR applicants must have an effective registration with the NMC.
  • Applicants should usually hold post-registration experience within a health practice setting  
  • NAR applicants working in clinical practice must provide evidence of managerial support
  • NAR applicants should possess 240 credits (120 at level 4 and 120 at level 5).
  • NAR applicants must book and attend an informal interview with the Programme Leader before applying to commence any of the modules.
  • We recommend you email the Programme Leader in advance of applying to discuss module suitability.

Teaching and assessment

 

The programme adopts a range of teaching and learning strategies. Shared learning with other professionals will be a focus of this programme. Students will be encouraged to develop a critical, evaluative approach to the knowledge which underpins health and professional practice.

Facilities and features

Health and Life Sciences facilities

Substantial investment has developed our teaching and learning facilities to help you expand your practical experience and theoretical knowledge beyond the classroom.

The 19th century Hawthorn Building has facilities designed to replicate current practice in health and life sciences, including contemporary analytical chemistry and formulation laboratories, audiology booths and nursing and midwifery clinical skills suites.

Purpose-built clinical skills areas allow you to practice in a safe environment. You will receive guidance and support from staff to ensure that you develop a precise and accurate practical ability in the clinical skills suites.

Library services

On campus, the main Kimberlin Library offers a space where you can work, study and access a vast range of print materials, with computer stations, laptops, plasma screens and assistive technology also available. 

As well as providing a physical space in which to work, we offer online tools to support your studies, and our extensive online collection of resources accessible from our , e-books, specialised databases and electronic journals and films which can be remotely accessed from anywhere you choose. 

We will support you to confidently use a huge range of learning technologies, including Learning Zone, Collaborate Ultra, DMU Replay, MS Teams, Turnitin and more. Alongside this, you can access LinkedIn Learning and learn how to use Microsoft 365, and study support software such as mind mapping and note-taking through our new Digital Student Skills Hub. 

The library staff offer additional support to students, including help with academic writing, research strategies, literature searching, reference management and assistive technology. There is also a ‘Just Ask’ service for help and advice, live , online workshops, tutorials and drop-ins available from our , and weekly library live chat sessions that give you the chance to ask the library teams for help.

Learning zones

Our Learning Zones and The Greenhouse also provide space for group or individual work and study.

There are 1,600 study places across all library locations, more than 700 computer stations, laptops to borrow, free wi-fi and desktop power outlets.

You can also book rooms with plasma screens, laptops and DVD facilities for group work and presentations, secure an individual study room with adjustable lighting or make use of our assistive technology.
