Leicester has the fastest growing jobs market in the UK, according to new figures published by employment experts.
A report from recruitment website CV-library suggests more people are choosing Leicester as a place to work, with the city seeing the biggest rise in job applicants year-on-year across the UK.
This means that despite political and economic uncertainty in the UK over the last 12 months, the Leicester jobs market has continued to expand.
The news comes weeks after Leicester was named one of the best cities in which to live and work for the third year running.
CV-library says job applications in Leicester have risen by 14.7 per cent, putting the city at the top of the tree, above London, Manchester, Edinburgh and nearby Nottingham.
The website says: “Deciding on a location isn’t just important for buying a house, it’s also vital for starting a business and hiring new staff.
“The findings from our latest report show that key cities witnessed an even bigger jump in applications last year, making them the best locations for hiring in 2020.”
Lee Biggins, chief executive of CV-library, added: “Despite severe political and economic uncertainty over the last year, it’s positive to see that the UK jobs market has continued to grow.

Naming Leicester as the best place for hiring in 2020 is positive for ̨ÍåÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Leicester (DMU) students and graduates as they decide where to work once they finish their studies.
The university's recent economic impact report found that one in every 30 Leicester jobs can be traced back to DMU.
In November, the ranked Leicester in the top 10 best places for quality of life, ahead of London and neighbouring Nottingham and Derby.
The Index was developed by PwC and the think tank Demos. Leicester was ranked not just against economic factors, but against measures which the public vote as most important such as health, work-life balance, the environment and jobs.
One of its top scores was in the number of new businesses which are started in the city – echoing other surveys which name Leicester as one of the most entrepreneurial places in the UK.
