Personal profile

Ruth’s PhD is a historical analysis of the media representations of terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the British press.  She is also carrying out research on historical memory in Spain and the indignados movement, paying attention to the use of social media in social movements.  Other research interests include conflict reporting, otherness and research methods. Ruth lectures in various fields, including Media Discourse and Journalism.

Case studies

18 October 2012 – Appeared on Onda Vasca’s La Tarde en Euskadi to discuss the role of the media during the current crisis. This radio appearance was prompted by my paper “Indignados and Social Networking Sites: defending democracy and the right to protest”, which I presented at the conference organised by the European Sociological Association in the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao).
