Personal profile

I commenced my nursing career in 1996 as an RN and worked in Critical Care at the Horton Hospital for 3 years before moving into the Community setting. I am a qualified DN and RHV and have worked in Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes. For the last 20 years I have worked in Higher Education, teaching on a range of programmes, from Nursing Associates and Pre Registration Nursing to leading a Masters in Public Health programme for 10 years.

I have taught research methods modules at level 5 and 6, Public Health and Health Promotion modules at undergraduate and post graduate level. I enjoy online teaching and learning and was Programme leader for an online blended Adult Nursing course, in this programme I ran the leadership and study skills modules. I have been a Master’s dissertation supervisor for 13 years and supervised some very interesting projects. I have been involved in undertaking research on District Nurses Experiences of Independent Prescribing, on Health Visitors perceptions of the Child Health Record (Red Book) and parents experiences of using Children's Centre's.

More recently I have commence my PhD focusing on how culture in community hospitals affects the knowledge, skills and behaviours of Trainee Nursing Associates and ultimately shapes their role.
