Personal profile

Sophia joined De Montfort Law School in 2021. Her research interests are in the areas of Energy law, Renewable Energy law and Investment law. Sophia's current research focuses on how regional energy laws, renewables and non-state investments can increase energy access in West Africa.

Prior to joining De Montfort law school, Sophia was the Managing Solicitor of a private law firm in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She also worked Pro Bono with the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, defending prison inmates. At the start of her legal career, Sophia worked as a Pupil State Counsel for the Department of Public Prosecution at the Ministry of Justice in Umuahia, Nigeria.

More recently, Sophia has taught foundation law modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Bradford, University of Salford, and Leeds Beckett University.

Sophia is passionate about teaching and she enjoys storytelling.
